RBSL Livelihoods Support

 

Livelihoods - Fisheries
  1. A 18 Foot boat, 15 HP Outboard Motor and ten pieces of fish net were provided to Sea-Shore Fishermen Co-op Society Limited in Kalmunaikudy, Kalmunai, Ampara District on 26th July 2005.
  2. A 18 Foot boat, 15 HP Outboard Motor and ten pieces of fish net were provided to Al-Ameen Fisheries Co-op Society, Kalumunai, Ampara District on 26th July 2005.
  3. A 18 foot boat, 15 HP Outboard Motor and 10 pieces of fish net were provided to the Mankerni Fisheries Society on 21st August 2005. The beneficiary was Selvam Robert.
  4. A 18 Foot Boat, 15 HP Out Board Motor and ten pieces of fish net were provided to the Sea Resources Fresh Water Fisheries Extension Services Society of Inginiyagala, Kalmunai on 24th August 2005.
  5. A sum of Rs. 978,838/- donated by Rotary Clubs of the Isle of Wight and Rotary District 1110 – ‘Vectis Village Project’ is presently being utilized for the construction of two ‘fish auction centres’ in Manalkadu and Pothpathi villages in Vadamarachchi East, Jaffna District.
  6. Ten prawn nets together with bait were provided to fishermen in Batticaloa District in late September.

Three boats and engines were funded by Hope Lanka and a further boat and engine was funded by Shipwrecked Mariners Society. Each unit consisting of one 18 Foot Boat, 15 HP Outboard Motor and 10 pieces of fish nets costs Rs. 380,000/-.

 

Livelihoods – Equipment for Welding, Carpentry & Housing
  1. A Welding plant, Benchwise, Driller, Grinder and Welding Gas Lamp were provided to Anthony Patrick Regal of the Dutch Bar in Batticaloa on 8th August 2005.
  2. 2 nos Power Planers, Electric Drillers, Grinders, Electric Routers and Electric Jigsaws were provided to Dolbert Vincent and Noel Speck from the Dutch Bar and Kalady Uppodai in Batticaloa.
  3. 1 set of Box Spanners, Screw Drivers, Rings Spanners and several other items were supplied to Jude Prince Hendricks, a mechanic from the Dutch bar.
  4. Tools and Appliances for Carpenters, Welders, Mechanics, Barbers, Tailors, Bicycle repair shop, etc. to the value of approximately Rs. 750,000/- were distributed to affected families in Nilaveli and Kallarawa in the Trincomalee District.
  5. Three Cement block making machines were also provided to affected families in Sathurukondan in Batticaloa. Each machine will assist in generating employment (directly and indirectly) for up to 6 families. Two machines were funded by Citibank Limited. The third machine was funded by Suntel Limited.
  6. Three Cement block making machines, 2 Kerosene water pumps and 10 sewing machines will be supplied to Kallarawa ad Nilaweli areas in Trincomalee in the first week of October.
Livelihoods - Agriculture
  1. 1. The following agriculture appliances were distributed to farmers in Akkaraipattu to the value of Rs. 133,450/- on 26th August 2005.
    Wheel barrows (10 x Rs. 1650/-), torches (30 x Rs. 275/-), Lanterns (10 x Rs. 350/-), Axes (25 x Rs. 350/-), Chisel (50 x Rs. 350/-), Mammothy (50 x Rs. 465/-), Spray machines (5 x Rs. 6790/-) and petrol max (10 x Rs. 2000/-).
    These items were funded by the Poorna Healthcare trust and Kevin and Christine Fee.
    In addition to the above ten bicycles funded by Suntel Limited were also provided to these farmers.
  2. Ten Spray Machines were supplied to farmers in Thirukkovil and Thambiluvil on 28th August 2005.
Livelihoods - Other
  1. In the month of September 10 sewing machines were provided to affected families in Trincomalee. These items were funded by the Poorna Healthcare trust.
  2. A Slipt Lamp to the value of Rs. 365,000/- was provided to Mr. Maya Lagu an Optician resident in Kalmunai, Ampara District. The Lamp was donated by the Rotary Clubs of the Isle of Wight and Rotary District 1110 – ‘Vectis Village Project’.
  3. 140 Bicycles (including air pumps and luggage holders) funded by Suntel Limited were distributed to affected families in Batticaloa, Jaffna and Trincomalee in the month of August.
School Items

Sports items (Cricket, Volleyball, Badminton, Carom, Football, etc.) were supplied to 36 Schools and Sports Clubs in Jaffna. These items were funded by the Poorna Healthcare Trust.

Sanitation

In the month of September 30 mobile toilets provided by the Rotary Club of Colombo Regency were distributed to affected families in Batticaloa and Ampara Districts.
