Report on Distribution of Long Box Items – Veeranagaraya - (Trincomalee district)

RE: REPORT ON DISTRIBUTION OF LONG BOX ITEMS – VEERANAGARAYA (TRINCOMALEE DISTRICT)

1. Veeranagaraya -

Veeranagaraya is a small fishing village (approximately 125 families) located within a close proximity of Trincomalee town. The Village was badly affected by the Tsunami of 26th December 2004. Fisheries is the principal income generator of this village.

2. Beneficiaries – Veeranagaraya Society

K. B. Amaradasa, P. H. Weerasiri, P. H. Warnasiri, P. H. Padmasiri, A. H. Priyantha, A. H. Sujith, D. V. Nimal Shantha, W. K. H. Namal, H. W. Upul, A, T. Amarasiri, T. H. Prasanna Indunil, T. H. Sunil Shantha and K. B. Weerasinghe.

These beneficiaries were in need of the following long box items

‘T/Hooks’ – 100
‘Suwerlles’ (b) – 25
‘Suwerlles’ (s) – 100
‘M. F. Line’ – 180 – 75 Kg
‘M. F. Line’ – 225 – 162 Kg

Relief Organisations had already provided them with boats and engines. These beneficiaries owned boats, engines and long boxes prior to the tsunami of 26th December 2004.

3. Supplier -

All items were supplied by ‘New Fishing Nets Sales Centre’, No. 85, grand Street, Negombo. A scanned copy of the relevant invoice has been sent to you.

4. Distribution -

The distribution took place on 12th June 2005. Photographs of the distribution are attached for your easy reference. Rebuild Sri Lanka Trust members were present at the distribution. The distribution was coordinated by the Sri Lanka Army.
